Mother’s Day is here and it is the perfect occasion to get family over to your Encino apartment or home to celebrate the women who mean the most to us for a Sunday brunch.
For many the idea of cooking an elegant brunch sounds daunting, but here are some easy suggestions for making that special day even more special.
Oatmeal – now I know it doesn’t sound like a Mother’s Day brunch option, but it is easy and who doesn’t love a big bowl of oatmeal. Use steel cut or instant oats by preparing the oats in a pan, stir frequently and add milk (I love Almond Milk). In small bowls set out the fixings; raisins, chocolate chips, fresh fruit, brown sugar, nuts are just a few things that make your oatmeal special.
Pastries – don’t forget the sweets for your sweet Mom. Encino has bakeries that are great. Viktor Benz has cakes, pastries, danish and the Alligator; a coffee cake with pecans. Try Aroma’s on Ventura Blvd for a selection of pastries, interesting salads and other goodies.
Eggs and Things – either whip up some delicious scrambled eggs or try Hillary Scott’s Tater Tot recipe for an interesting and delicious twist on brunch.
Fruit – Make a fruit salad with all the fresh melons and produce available in our area. Add a bit of zing by adding some honey and gin and letting it sit overnight.
Mimosas or Bloody Mary’s – In addition to coffee and juice, adding a picture of mimosas or bloody Mary’s adds that festive touch.
Whatever you decide, make it festive and easy; buy a bouquet of flowers and colorful napkins … if you still think this is too much work, there are lots of brunch options in Encino or give Mom flowers, perfume and chocolate still work – Happy Mother’s Day.
