  |     |   New Year's

Lang Syne is the most popular New Year’s Eve song and probably the most miss sang songs of all time.  It translates to “old long since” and means “times gone by”.

Dropping of the ball at midnight is a tradition that started in Times Square and has been celebrated consistently since 1907 (with the exception of 1942 and 1943).  Other cities drop other objects at midnight.

We blow horns and make noise because of an old superstition to scare away evil spirits.

Kissing someone at midnight assures that you wont’ be alone in the New Year.

Black Eyed Peas, Collard Greens, and Ham Hocks are eaten on New Year’s Day for good luck, good fortune, and good health.

Don’t eat lobster on New Year’s Day, since they walk backwards instead of forward. New Year’s is all about moving forward.
